Have you ever thought of owning an electric car for yourself? Or How much will the vehicle cost? what will be the service cost of an electric vehicle? Where will you find the EV charging stations? Several question runs in our mind. Right!!

As India’s EV revolution has picked up steam in 2022, there have been some arguments made against it by various stakeholders. Or do I put it as MYTHS ABOUT ELECTRONIC VEHICLES!!

Myth 1: Lithium is owned by China, so India’s dependence on China will increase with higher EV adoption
Fact: China currently dominates only the midstream processing of lithium. However, the majority of lithium mines are located in Australia, Chile and Argentina. China doesn’t control a vast majority of these mines. By focusing on localizing the midstream processing of lithium and partnering with these countries, India can build an alternate supply chain for itself and the world.

Myth 2: Electric vehicles have a limited driving range.
Fact: Electric vehicles have greatly improved in terms of driving range in recent years, with some models offering ranges of over 300 miles per charge.

Myth 3: Electric vehicles take too long to charge.
Fact: While it is true that charging an electric vehicle can take longer than filling up a gas tank, many newer EV models have fast-charging capabilities that can charge the battery to 80% in under an hour.

Myth 4: Electric vehicles are more expensive to maintain than gasoline vehicles.
Fact: Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts and require less maintenance than gasoline vehicles. This means that EV owners may save money on maintenance costs in the long run.
In countries like India, more than 99% of products sold are priced between ₹ 1,00,000 – ₹ 50,00,000! In western contries companies like Tesla and more recently Rivian, Lucid, and traditional European carmaker’s like BMW, Mercedes, have focused on products like luxury sedans, large pickup electric trucks and other formats relevant to the western audience. Even the cheapest Tesla Model 3 will cost upwards of $50,000 (or ₹ 50,00,000 in India).

Myth 5: Electric vehicles are not environmentally friendly.
Fact: Electric vehicles produce zero emissions at the tailpipe and significantly reduce emissions overall when powered by renewable energy sources. This makes them a cleaner and more sustainable transportation option compared to gasoline vehicles.

Well Electric vehicles are the future! There are plenty of benefits to owning an electric vehicle with the right amount of functionality and infrastructure.
