Electric cars, like the Tesla Model S, are no longer on the horizon-they are here, and they are changing the way we get around. But what is driving this change? Well, the impressive development in battery technology surely is a mighty contributing factor.
Most of the EVs currently in service rely on lithium-ion batteries. This is known for efficiency and rapid charging. Scientists and engineers do not stop there, though. They are refining more advanced types of batteries, such as solid-state ones, which could push EVs to travel farther distances and faster-more perhaps even safer. Long highway drives without running out of power-that might be a lesson from the future.
Another interesting part of this is that we are beginning to recycle the old batteries and reusing the lithium and cobalt materials. That of course does reduce waste, but it also reduces the cost of building new batteries, bringing the overall EV cost down.
Any which way, governments continue embracing policies friendly to clean energy; more and more people are looking at alternatives that are environmentally friendly-meaning electric vehicles will get cheaper and closer. What's more, with improvements in battery technology, the transport revolution we are on the precipice of is one indeed that is cleaner, greener, and better for everyone.
